The Baroque Mezzo: Biography

Anthea Fisher, Operatic Mezzo-Soprano

Anthea Fisher is a classically trained singer located in the Boise area. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Boise State University. She has nine years of singing and performing experience and has been writing original compositions for three years.

Currently, she is a member of Meistersingers, which is Boise State University’s top auditioned choral group. She is also involved with the Opera Theatre program there, which puts on a show or scenes program each semester. In 2023, she played the role of the waitress, Stephanie, in Michael Ching’s comedic one-act Opera, Speed Dating Tonight. She also played various roles in the Scenes Program in 2022.

In March 2023, she was the featured soloist for the Boise State Meistersinger’s performance of Felix Mendelssohn’s song cycle Op. 96, Drei Geistliche Lieder composed for alto solo, choir, and organ (1840-1843). This song set includes the works Lass’, o Herr, mich Hülfe finden, Deines Kinds Gebet erhöre, and Herr, wir trau'n auf deine Güte.

She has sung in masterclasses given by professional musicians such as Luke Frazier, director of the American Pops Orchestra, and Dr. Errik Hood, Professor of Voice at the New York University Steinhardt School of Music.

She has been awarded the position of choral scholar in various church choirs, including the Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano Mixed Ensemble, Grace Anglican Church of Boise Choir, and First Presbyterian Church of Boise Choir. In addition to being a choral scholar, she was a staff member at the Basilica, where she cantored baptisms.

She also has experience singing for various other types of services, such as funerals, weddings, and special occasions. She was a section leader of both the Advanced Women’s Chorus and Chamber Singers at San Juan Hills High School and is currently on the Boise State Meistersingers Board.

Anthea enjoys being on stage and has had the opportunity to sing in concert halls such as Segerstrom Hall in Costa Mesa, California, Carnegie Hall in New York, New York, and the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts in Boise, Idaho.

In her undergraduate career, Anthea has performed works by Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741), Georg Friedrich Händel (1685-1759), Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791), Robert Schumann (1810-1856), Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924), Claude Debussy (1862-1918), Richard Strauss (1864-1949), Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958), and more. She has also debuted original compositions of modern-day, living composers.

In addition to music, Anthea is simultaneously pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management as well as a Certificate in Elementary French. She received an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts and a Certificate of Achievement in General Education from Saddleback Community College in 2020. She also graduated with the highest GPA-related honors, Summa Cum Laude.

Anthea is a member of both Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma. Phi Kappa Phi is a selective all-discipline honor society that has extremely high standards for selection. Membership is by invitation only and is offered to the top 7.5% of second-term juniors and the top 10% of seniors and graduate students.

Beta Gamma Sigma is the nation’s most prestigious international business honor society. Membership is exclusively offered to the top 10% of students at the top 5% of AACSB-accredited business schools in the world.

She currently holds a 4.0 GPA and has been on the Dean’s List with Highest Honors throughout her college career and across both of her majors. She has received various scholarships from both the music and business departments of the university.

Anthea looks forward to continuing her education and taking opportunities to perform in various settings.
